Titles, descriptions and keywords

The single biggest thing you control about how much your work sells.

An image nobody can find earns nothing, and search reads your title, description and keywords. This is worth more of your time than another pass in Lightroom.

  • Title — what is in the picture, in plain words. "Woman reading by a window", not "Solitude no. 4".
  • Description — a sentence that adds what the title cannot: the setting, the mood, what it would be used for.
  • Keywords — aim for fifteen to thirty. Include the obvious nouns, the setting, the colours, the mood, and the concepts a buyer might search for ("remote work", "calm", "morning routine").

Keyword what is actually there. Adding "beach" to a picture with no beach in it gets the image in front of people who will not license it, and search learns from that.
